1. Prepare your Block.

  • Remove the grow block from the clear humidity dome.

  • Place the grow block into the green tray with the bag flap facing downward.

  • Using a sharp, clean knife, carefully cut a 2-inch long "X" across the center of the top of the bag, allowing the blade to sink about 1/4 inch into the block.

Variety Tips

Lion’s Mane

Will fruit from a smaller opening, 1/2” X can be better for lions mane to cut down on growing under the bag. Lion’s mane may be more prone to drying out in your home than oyster varieties. They also do not like to have any sitting water on their fruiting body. In order to find the perfect balance, careful attention must be paid. Pink irregular growth means to much humidity/not enough fresh air and yellowing often means the mushroom is drying out. The best method in lower humidity conditions is to leave the humidity dome, rotated 90 degrees. It can be left like this for the entire growth cycle of the lions mane, until it is almost growing into the dome. At that point, remoove the dome completely to let it finish up.

After harvest, with Lion’s Mane, simply let it grow from the same spot where you harvested.

Maintain Moisture Levels:

  • Continue lightly misting the mushrooms 2-3 times daily if humidity levels are low, to prevent drying out.

  • Harvesting Guidelines:

    • Harvest mushrooms when they are ready, typically 5-10 days after growth begins.

    • For Oyster varieties, harvest once the edges start to uncurl.

    • For Chestnut, harvest when caps begin to flatten but are still rounded.

    • For Lion’s Mane, harvest once spines elongate to approximately 1/4 inch.

  • Harvesting Process:

    • Gently twist mushrooms from their base to harvest.

  • Storage:

    • Store freshly harvested mushrooms in a paper bag in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.

  • Second Harvest Potential:

    • Consider restarting the process from step #3 for a chance at a second harvest. Lion’s Mane may continue to produce for up to 3 cycles from the same area.

  • Find a Suitable Location:

  • Position the enclosed tray in an area with indirect light.

  • Prepare your Block.

    • Remove the grow block from the clear humidity dome.

    • Place the grow block into the green tray with the bag flap facing downward.

    • Using a sharp, clean knife, carefully cut a 2-inch long "X" across the center of the top of the bag, allowing the blade to sink about 1/4 inch into the block

Maintain Humidity:

  • Mist the entire inside of the humidity dome 2-3 times daily, adjusting based on ambient humidity levels until condensation covers the dome. Keep the humidity dome on top of the tray, ensuring that all four holes on top are fully open.

Monitor Growth:

  • Expect mushrooms to begin growing within 7-14 days. Once growth begins, remove the humidity dome.

  • When to remove the dome:

    • Keep a close eye on the grow block for signs of pinning, which refers to the initial formation of tiny mushroom primordia or "pins."

    • Pinning typically occurs within 7-14 days after setup.

    • Pins appear as small, white or pink bumps on the surface of the grow block, indicating that mushroom growth is imminent.

    • Once pins are visible and beginning to mature, it's time to remove the humidity dome to allow for more fresh air for your rapidly growing mushrooms.

    • Refer to the provided pictures of pinning baby mushrooms to visually identify when to remove the humidity dome.

Notes for dry homes: Under some home conditions, especially those in the winter or under heavy air conditioning, it may be too dry for your mushrooms to grow happily. It may be necessary to transition your growing mushroom pins from their ultra humid dome, to the dry conditions in your house. The method of turning the lid 90 degrees so it sits perpindicular to the green grow tray is good method to increase fresh air, while maintaining some humidity. After a couple days like this, your mushrooms should be getting used to the drier conditions, and can the humidity dome can be removed completely.
