Logs are best cut in the dormant season, late fall - late winter and cut 2 weeks - 2 months prior to inoculation. The larger the log diameter, the slower it is to colonize, but the more years of harvests it will produce. 3”-6” is the best range and 2-3’ is usually the best length.
